Manchester United have been given new hope in the pursuit of Ajax forward Antony, while a rumored Chelsea target will cost £70 million – both in Wednesday’s Transfer Gossip.
AJAX CHIEF GETS MAN UTD ATTENTION
Manchester United could still sign Antony from Ajax after their technical manager made an eye-catching admission about his future.
The Red Devils are reportedly looking at Antony as one of the options to improve their forward line. The Brazilian can play as a winger on either flank and registered 12 goals and 10 assists last season.
Erik ten Hag is focusing on Ajax stars past and present to improve his squad, as he either has a good relationship with them or knows they have the attributes to fit in his system.
United have brought in Lisandro Martinez and Christian Eriksen, both of whom have won league titles with Ajax previously. They have also signed Tyrell Malacia, although he is an exception to Ten Hag’s apparent Ajax rule.
Over the weekend, Ajax first-team coach Alfred Schreuder effectively ended United’s hopes of landing Antony.
He said: “I really think he will stay. Of course, we have sold a lot of players now. That has not happened in recent years.
“We have also bought players. But we have sold so many players that I assume nobody will leave.”
Ajax winger Antony pushing for Premier League move
Antony wants to leave Ajax this summer with a transfer to the Premier League to Chelsea or Manchester United most likely
But technical manager Gerry Hamstra has opened up the possibility of one of Schreuder’s star players moving to Old Trafford.
During an interview with a Dutch outlet Voetbal International: (via: The Sun), he admitted “you can never say never” when it comes to summer transfers.
He also suggested there are some players who ‘have a wish to leave’, with Antony likely among them.
“We want to keep this group together. I assume that no one leaves this core anymore,” Hamstra said. “Of course you can never say never, I have learned that by now.
“But we also talk about it with the players, have conversations. Also with boys who may have a wish to leave. Ajax players are drawn, that is logical.”
Ten Hag can already rely on Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Elanga and Anthony Martial in wide areas. But adding Antony to the squad would improve the manager’s options and help United in their hunt to get back in the Champions League.
CHELSEA TARGET RECEIVES HIGH VALUATION
Chelsea will have to pay top dollar to sign Wesley Fofana from: Leicester Cityaccording to: CBS Sports journalist Ben Jacobs.
Fofana moved to the Premier League in October 2020 as Leicester paid Saint Etienne £31.5m for his services.
He impressed during his debut season in England and made 38 appearances in all competitions.
The centre-back missed most of the last campaign due to a broken leg. He is now back to full fitness and aiming to continue his exciting development.
Recent reports claim Chelsea will look to sign Fofana if they lose out on Jules Kounde to Barcelona.
However, Jacobs states it will be ‘extremely difficult’ for the west London side to get Fofana this window.
Brendan Rodgers is keen to keep the 21-year-old defender as he rates him very highly. And if Chelsea wants to land him in another transfer window, then he will cost at least £70m.
Leicester are in a strong position to negotiate as Fofana’s terms at the King Power run until June 2027.
Jacobs has also hinted at what Fofana thinks about the rumours. The reporter posted a screenshot of Fofana liking a tweet which states: Rodgers absolutely wants to keep Fofana. Leicester will not consider any offer below £70m.’
It seems the Frenchman will be staying with the Foxes for at least another season and Chelsea will have to pursue other central defenders as a result.
CHELSEA ENTER TALKS WITH JUVENTUS OVER FORWARD
On Tuesday, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Juventus wanted to sign Timo Werner from Chelsea, and now the transfer guru has given an update.
He claims discussions between Chelsea and Juventus are underway over the German attacker.
The Italian giants are exploring the possibility of Werner’s arrival. A new forward is ‘top of the list’ for manager Max Allegri.
Werner isn’t the only player they are looking at, as a permanent move for former loanee Alvaro Morata is also under consideration. He spent the last two seasons in Turin, registering 32 goals in 92 outings.
Chelsea are unlikely to sell Werner but will allow him to go out on loan for a season. This would help the 26-year-old to get his confidence back up before potentially returning to Stamford Bridge as a better player.
Romano ends his tweet by suggesting other teams wish to sign Werner too. He writes: “More to follow also on other clubs soon.”
A return to Germany is another possibility for the pacy player, with RB Leipzig supposedly keeping tabs on the situation.
